How the king moves

The king moves one square at a time, in any direction: up, down, sideways, or diagonally. It is the slowest piece on the board, but it is also the most important, because if your king is trapped the game is over.

In these puzzles you guide a single king to the goal square. Wall pawns block the way, so you have to find a path around them. Each puzzle shows the smallest number of moves it can be done in. Try to match it.

Tip: because the king only moves one square, count the squares to the goal and think about which walls force you to go around. Diagonal steps often save a move.
